Making Mental Health Care Afforable for LGBTQ+ People

Our Mission & Vision

Apply for a Care Grant

Invest in mental health for our communities

The LGBTQ Wellness Fund provides low-obstacle financial assistance for LGBTQ+ individuals and families in the Midwest to access affordable, culturally competent psychotherapy. For many in our communities, mental health services are inaccessible due to prohibitively high costs. Even with private health insurance that covers psychotherapy, many individuals have high deductibles, leaving them functionally uninsured. Research demonstrates that queer and transgender populations experience a higher incidence of mental health challenges and suicidality than non-LGBTQ+ people, and our goal is to ensure that our communities have access to the care they need to thrive. We are committed to supporting individuals in their journey toward well-being by investing in ourselves and in our own. Please consider contributing to this movement!

Our Mission & Vision

Our mission is to address mental health disparities by providing grants to pay for or subsidize psychotherapy services for LGBTQ+ folks in the Midwest. We believe that mental health care is an integral part of whole health, and that all people deserve access to the care they need to heal, grow and thrive. Large corporations - most insurers in the US - are invested in profits rather than health equity, which creates the necessity for us to care for our own communities and collaborate to meet our collective and individual needs.

Our vision is to contribute to a reality in which our communities have access to high-quality mental health services, and to fill some of the gaps in a broken healthcare system. We believe that by investing in the mental health of LGBTQ+ individuals and families, we will support the broader ability of our communities to thrive. Addressing mental illness and maintaining mental health supports goals of more stable housing, greater educational access, substance use disorder prevention and treatment, sustained employment and greater longevity and quality of life.

Mental health care is not a luxury; we believe that everyone deserves access to skilled mental health care that understands and embraces their intersecting identities. Together, we can create greater equity in health outcomes for LGBTQ+ communities.
